# SteadyMonitor

> SteadyMonitor is uptime and infrastructure monitoring for websites, APIs and internal systems, run from public agents or private agents inside your own network.

SteadyMonitor checks websites, APIs, DNS, TLS certificates, TCP ports and hosts from its own public agents in multiple regions, or from private agents you run inside your network, so it can watch systems that have no public address at all. Negative checks alert when something that should be unreachable, such as a database port or an admin interface, suddenly answers. Every account gets every feature, and you pay only for the check executions you run, with 100,000 free every month.

## Who it's for

- Developers, DevOps and SRE teams who need to know when a website, API or service goes down
- Teams whose important systems sit on private networks with no public address
- Security-minded teams who want to know when a port or interface becomes reachable from the internet
- Businesses that want public or internal status pages without buying a separate product

## Key features

- Public agents in multiple regions, and private agents you run inside your own network as a Docker container that connects outbound only
- Check types: HTTP and HTTPS (status, response content and latency), DNS, TCP and ping (ICMP), with warnings before TLS certificates expire
- Negative checks that alert when something that should stay unreachable starts answering
- Secret scanning of HTTP responses for exposed API keys and tokens, with built-in and custom patterns, alerted immediately
- Environments: define a check once and run it against DEV, STAGING and PRD, each with its own variables, results, uptime and incidents
- Incidents raised only after N failures out of the last M runs, evaluated per location, with repeat alerts until recovery
- Alerts by email, push, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Telegram, Google Chat and webhook
- Unlimited status pages on unguessable links, scoped per environment, with up to 90 days of uptime history and incident updates
- Fine-grained API keys scoped per resource for projects, checks, incidents, environments, variables and usage
- Checks from every 15 seconds to every 24 hours, and 90 days of raw result history
- Hosted on Hetzner in Nuremberg and Falkenstein, Germany (EU), with personal data handled under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR

## Use cases

- Website and API uptime monitoring
- Monitoring internal APIs, databases and services through a private agent
- Verifying that database ports, admin paths and management interfaces stay unreachable from outside
- DNS monitoring against the addresses you expect
- TLS certificate expiry warnings
- Running the same check against development, staging and production
- Publishing a status page for customers or an internal team

## Why SteadyMonitor

- Monitors both sides of the firewall: public agents and private agents are included on every account
- Negative monitoring alerts when something that should be down becomes reachable
- Every feature on every account, with no higher tier for private agents, API access, integrations or status pages
- Usage-based pricing: pay only for check executions, with no subscription or monthly fee
- Private agents sign every request with HMAC-SHA256 and verify signed updates before they run

## Pricing

- Every account gets every feature; you pay only for check executions.
- One check execution is one check, run once, from one agent.
- 100,000 free check executions every month on the free plan. The free allowance resets monthly and doesn't roll over.
- Or buy executions as you need them, with no subscription and no monthly fee. Purchased executions stay valid while you keep using the service, and larger purchases cost less per execution.
- Auto-top-up is optional and off by default, with a monthly spending cap you set. If the balance reaches zero, checks pause until executions are available again.

## Frequently asked questions

### What counts as a check execution?

One check, run once, from one agent. A check running every minute from two locations uses two executions a minute.

### Do unused executions roll over?

The free allowance resets each month. Purchased executions carry over while you keep using the service. They expire after 120 days without usage, and we'll email you before that happens.

### Is auto-top-up optional?

Yes. It's off by default. If you switch it on, choose the top-up amount, the balance that triggers it and a monthly spending cap. Top-ups can't exceed that cap, and a declined payment switches auto-top-up off.

### What happens if I run out of executions?

Your checks pause. We'll warn you when the balance runs low and when it's empty, and monitoring resumes automatically when executions are available again. There are no automatic charges unless you've enabled auto-top-up.

### What is a private agent?

A Docker container you run inside your own network. It makes outbound connections only and runs checks on systems it can reach, including those without a public IP address.

### What is a negative check?

A check that expects its target to be unreachable. If it gets a response that meets your failure rule, it alerts you. Use it for database ports, admin interfaces and other services that should stay closed from where the agent runs.

### Which locations are available?

Public checks run from four locations: Seoul (South Korea), Stockholm (Sweden), London (UK) and Ohio (US). Pick one or more for each check. You can also run checks from anywhere you install a private agent.

### How quickly can checks run?

Anywhere from every 15 seconds to every 24 hours, per check.

### How are failures confirmed before an incident?

Set a rule for each check, such as 3 failures out of the last 5 results. Each location is evaluated separately, and any one can raise an incident. Detected secrets alert immediately without waiting for that threshold.

### Can status pages use custom domains?

Yes. Each status page can be served on your own domain, such as status.yourcompany.com, with an HTTPS certificate issued and renewed for you. Add the hostname to the page, create the one DNS record we show you, and it goes live once the record is found. Every page also keeps its own stable steadymonitor.io address.

### How long is monitoring history kept?

Check results, including pass or fail, timings and error text, are kept for 90 days on every account.

### Where is my data hosted, and is it GDPR compliant?

On Hetzner servers in Nuremberg and Falkenstein, Germany, inside the EU. We handle personal data under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR. Alerts you set up, such as email or Slack, go through the provider you choose. See our privacy policy for the details.
